Well, my goal of weekly blogging hasn't started out very well! I hope you have had a chance to use the nightly "Talk About-It's". I will be searching for new ones to send home more often!
What have we been learning? Language Arts - We are learning about Personal Narratives. What kinds of books are they? How do I write a personal narrative? Last week, first graders were tested for reading levels and spelling skills to properly educate my students. We have started small reading groups that are differentiated to students' needs. In Math, we have been reviewing how to make numbers by adding 0-9, and reviewing number recognition and counting to 120. We have been practicing mindfulness, by getting ourselves in a comfortable sitting position and learning how to focus on the task at hand. In Social Studies, we have been reviewing school and classroom rules. Please continue to read nightly with your child and to document it on the calendar in the front of the assignment notebooks by the blue tab! We celebrate reading at home successes! :) I am so glad you decided to visit! I will be updating the blogs frequently, My goal is weekly! I will try to include topics that we are working on, photos, things to talk about with your child and more. If you have other suggestions, please share them with me! I am truly excited for this school year! I will be incorporating mindfulness into every day! I am also excited to include Words Their Way into our word work block! There are a lot of fun activities included in this approach that keeps students engaged while learning! Recently, I sent a Talk About it Page (or 2). Please cut these apart, put into a jar, bowl, hat or something else that works for you. Have your child draw one sheet out each night for a quick discussion! Enjoy! Tonight, some things to ask: Why is your thumb full of ink? (We made a pledge to do, try and be our best at school.) What does "fill your bucket mean?" How do you belly breathe? I also sent home book orders. These will be due on Monday, September 12th. Please see the letter in this blog. As a class, students voted if they preferred to bring their own snack or to bring a snack for the whole class. The students voted to bring a snack for the whole class, so I will be providing a calendar soon! Thanks to Holly and Kaitlyn's family for sending treats today! Have a great week! |
