We had a great week returning from Spring Break! We finished up our Reader's Theater plays and performed for the Kindergarten class. The students worked on expression, voice level, fluent reading as well as a bit of acting! We plan to do more plays in the future, as it was a great success!
This week, we also began working on Author Studies. We will be focusing on Leo Lionni, Mem Fox, Robert Munsch and a few more favorites! We will discuss the author's craft and practice using it in our own writing. We are learning about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes in math and will be learning about equal shares and fractions! Try going on a shape hunt, looking for trapezoids, rectangles, spheres, cylinders and more! Students get to enjoy a 3 day weekend! I will be busy entering grades for the end of the quarter! Next week, we will have nutrition classes on Monday -Thursday. Ask your child about new healthy foods to try! You may be surprised about their choices!

Our field trip to the Grand Theater and Clay Corners Studio was a complete hit! The students (and adults) really had a great time! It was fun to see a book "come to life"! Students also became instant artist at the Studio! They painted clay pots with some very creative designs. Check out the pictures on our class website "Photos" tab. Thanks to all those who volunteered to help make our trip a success! This week, we will be working on Reader's Theater! Students will bring a book "to life" and share with classmates! We will be working on fluency and expression. We will finish up our unit on opinions in Language Arts. We are continuing on our STEM projects. This week we worked on Ramp and Roll and will begin our digital trash projects. Continue sending any old digital items that we can destroy and re-purpose! ;0 This Wednesday we will have a volunteer that will be helping out in our school. Let's welcome Mr. Bill! Book orders are due this Friday. UPCOMING DATES: Next week- Spring Break March 31st - Friday Schedule and End of QTR April 1st - No School, No Joke! The first week of March was very busy for us! We have been celebrating Dr. Seuss this week. Check out Channel 12 News for Miss Melody tonight! Each day we have been wearing different clothing in honor of Dr. Seuss books. We also attended a Google Hangout with Mrs. Rumney, as she read a favorite Dr. Seuss story! A Hangout is similar to Skype, but is through Google. Several classrooms in the district participated and we were able to interact live! How cool is that?!?!?
We also started working on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects. What fun! We are starting with small projects to learn what kind of behavior is expected and how to cooperate so we can stay focused and accomplish our goal. Some groups have been very successful, while others are still learning! :) Our first project was called "Saving Sam the Worm". There are several examples of this on Youtube! Other projects included creating the largest, sturdiest building with 15 pipe cleaners and creating a boat out of foil that will carry 20 pennies. Pictures will be posted soon! Next week we will begin a project on recycling digital items, such as old phones, computer parts, dvds, floppy discs and other storage discs. If you have anything that you would like to donate, please send to school by March 8th. We are continuing to work on our individual websites. We should have a second video uploaded by next week! REMINDER: Field trip permission forms are due on Friday. There IS A COST! Please send $7 with the form. Thank you! |
